Boys Varsity Head Coach Brandon Salsman
Coach Salsman is a 1992 graduate of Lexington Catholic and is in his 19th year as the Knights Head Coach. He played for the 1992 State Runner-Up Knights. After the 1992 season, Coach Salsman became an assistant coach to Danny Haney and worked his way up to the top varsity assistant. While as an assistant, the Knights won four Region Championships, two-time state semi-finalist, state runner up in 2000 and the 2002 State Champions.
After the 2002 season, Coach Salsman became the head coach at Bourbon County High School. In three seasons at Bourbon County, he led the Colonels to three consecutive district titles, two region semi-finalists finishes and one region runner-up.
Coach Salsman returned to Lexington Catholic in 2005 after being named the head coach. Under his leadership, LCHS has won ten District Championships and four 11th Region Titles. The Knights went on to be Sweet Sixteen Semi-Finalists and ranked as high as #9 in the nation in the south by USA Today during the 2008 season. The Knights have sent numerous players on to play college basketball at institutions such as: Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Bellarmine, William & Mary, Air Force Academy, Dayton, Tennessee Tech, Wright State, Transylvania, Centre, Bryant, Loyola Maryland among others.
Coach Salsman and his wife, Kate, line in Lexington. They have two daughters: Anne Rachel and Elizabeth Jane.
Matt Heissenbuttel Associate Head Coach
Coach Heissenbuttel is a 2000 graduate of Lexington Catholic and a four-year member of the varsity boys’ basketball team. While at LCHS, he played in the 1998 and 2000 Sweet Sixteen finishing as a Semi-Finalist and Runner-Up, respectively. Coach Heissenbuttel scored over 1,000 points in his career and is known as one of the most versatile players in program history.
After high school, he continued his playing career under Tubby Smith at the University of Kentucky. Coach Heissenbuttel is in his 10th year with the Knights and is a valued asset to Coach Salsman. Matt lives in Lexington with is wife, Kara, and his sons Jaxson and Harrison.
Jordan Sucher Varsity Assistant
Coach Sucher begins his third season as an assistant coach for Lexington Catholic. Prior to joining the Knights, he served as an assistant coach at Bowling Green High School from 2019-2021. From 2006-2017, Coach Sucher was Special Assistant to the Head Coach at the University of Louisville where he was part of two Final Fours and a National Championship. As a player, he was a four-year basketball letterman at Centre College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and history in 2004. He is married to Dr. Nessa Timoney (’00) and has two boys, JJ and Keagan.
Doug Grieme Head JV Coach
Coach Grieme is entering his 12th season as an assistant coach with Lexington Catholic. He is a graduate of Villa Madonna Academy and a 2002 graduate of Northern Kentucky University. Coach Grieme was the Head Coach of St. Joseph’s Middle School program in Crescent Spring, Kentucky where he spent six years. From 2003-2007, he was the Associate Varsity Head Coach and Head JV Coach at Beechwood High School. While at Beechwood, he coached the first JV team to go undefeated in the NKAC Division and helped coach the Tigers to their first Regional Tournament in 25 years. Coach Grieme and his wife, Cari, have two children.
Coach Chad Martin Head Freshman Coach
Coach Martin is a 1992 graduate of Lexington Catholic and four-year member of the Varsity Basketball Team. As a senior, Coach Martin was named All-State helping lead the Knights to the 1992 Class A State Championship and the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen Runner-Up. In the championship game, Coach Martin made six three-pointers, a school record at the time.
Coach Martin serves as the Head Coach for the freshman team and an assistant on the varsity team. He lives in Lexington with is wife Margy and their two children Layden and Merrick.
