Bob Griggs

In the 2011 season, Coach Griggs begins his 17th fastpitch season as the coach at Lexington Catholic.  Through 16 seasons, he has compiled an overall record of 301-247-1.  His teams have won 10 district championships and one regional championship.  They have 3 district runner-ups and 2 regional runner-ups.  Bob and his 1999 staff (Kevin Bruggeman and Anne Lynd) were voted the Kentucky Coaching Staff of the year by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association.  In 2008, he was awarded the KY Prep Softball 11th Region Coach of the Year.  He coached 4 years on the Kentucky Prep Softball East All Star Teams in 1999, 2000 (Head Coach), 2001, 2010.  As the head coach in 2000 he led the East team to a 2-0 record over the West Team.  In June of 2000, Griggs was inducted into the KY Prep Softball Hall of Fame.  He was on the inaugural coaching staff for the Kentucky All Stars in the newly formed Kentucky-Tennessee All Star Series in 2006.  He continues to serve on the Kentucky Prep Softball Board.  He also serves as the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association Webmaster (www.kyhighschoolsoftball.com), and he is currently the president of the KSCA.  In addition to his softball coaching, he coached 10 years for the Lexington Catholic Football Team, and he has been a teacher at Lexington Catholic for 18 years in the math department.  Griggs is a Lexington native, graduating from Tates Creek High School.  While attending Tates Creek, he lettered in football, wrestling, and baseball.  He earned his undergraduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University and his graduate degree from Georgetown College.  Coach Griggs is married (Sheila) and they have two children (Lindsay and Joey).

Terry Sargent

Terry Sargent is in his 9th season in 2011 as an assistant coach for Lexington Catholic High School.  Coach Sargent has been a coach for several years in softball and baseball.  His most recent coaching job before coming to Lexington Catholic was in his hometown of Paris for the Bourbon County Softball Team.  Terry is a graduate of Paris High School.  He was a 4 year player for the Paris baseball team.  He played several years on men’s slowpitch teams, and was instrumental in helping the NSA compile their rule book.  Terry works in Lexington for Brandeis Machinery, and continues to reside in Paris with his wife Karen.  They have one daughter, Ashley.

 

 

Assistant Varsity Coach

Larry Meikel

Larry Meikel enters his 2nd year in 2011 with the team.  Larry has a long history as a fastpitch coach and as a player.  After moving to Lexington from Kansas in the summer of 1996, Larry began using his experience helping the Knights coaching staff behind the scenes.  His daughter, Amy was entering the 6th grade at Mary Queen and would join the Knights roster the following season.  Larry continued to help with the team as a summer travel coach, and with player development in the off season.  After his daughter’s graduation in 2002, he followed her 4 year career at Transylvania University, but he still helped at Catholic with their annual Lady Knights Tournament.  Larry will specialize in helping pitchers, but will also work in all facets of the game with the team.

Barb Winters

Barb Winters is in her 19th year in 2011 as the Lexington Catholic Trainer.  She has worked will all of the athletic teams at Catholic during her time at Lexington Catholic.
