History of the Lady Knights Soccer Program

Girls’ soccer in the state of Kentucky was officially sanctioned by the Kentucky High School Athletics Association in 1993, but girls at Lexington Catholic have been playing on the boys’ team since its start in 1977. Mrs. Esther Breeding, an alumna and currently a religion teacher at Lexington Catholic, was one of the first players on the first girls’ soccer team started in 1979. The only teams in the city at that time were Sayre and The Lexington School, so the club team played LYSA teams as well. The first coach was Latin teacher Beth Attison, and coaches since then include John Rink, Kirk Bast, Inge Meinzer, and Bob Pugh. St. Louis native and math teacher Terry Quigley has been coaching the girls since 1991.
