Terry Quigley – Girls’ Varsity Head Coach

 

Coach Terry Quigley has been the head coach of the Lady Knights for 16 years,  During  his tenure, as the only coach the team has had under KHSAA sanctions passed in 1993, the girls have been to the state finals 6 times, winning the KHSAA State Championship in 2002, and losing in a shoot-out in 2005.  Coach Quigley has accumulated 9 of 12 district championships, been to 14 straight regional championships with  9 wins, and won 7 out of 8 sectional championships.  Last year was our 7th state semi-final (a state record), with a loss to Sacred Heart.  On top of that, he has coached a total of 59 All-State players. 

Coach Quigley holds an Advanced National Soccer Coaches Association diploma from Boca Raton, a National diploma  from Colorado Springs, and was the 2002 South Region Coach of the year, which made him one of the top 4 coaches in the nation.  He just resigned as president of the KY Girls Soccer Coaches Association for 15 years, an organization which he founded and started the KY Girls All-Star Game.  Native of Saint Louis, he has taught in the Catholic Diocese for 31 years and has been here at Lexington Catholic for twenty-one.

Susan McGrath – Girls’ Varsity Assistant Head Coach

 

Coach McGrath is entering her 14th year as the assistant coach under Coach Quigley.  She coached the junior varsity for six seasons as well, with two Central Kentucky JV Tournament Championships.   Ms. McGrath is a Geometry teacher at LCHS, her alma mater, where she was captain of the 1988 Lady Knights soccer team.  She has been playing competitive soccer for 30 years in Lexington.  She has a B.S. in mathematics from Saint Mary’s College and a M.S. in Math Education from UK.    She also now serves as Associate Athletics Director with A.D. Dave Bunnell. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Javier Garcia-Penya – Girls’ Junior Varsity Head Coach

 

A native of Torrellas, (Zaragoza) Spain and a world language teacher since 1983, Coach García-Penya is beginning his sixth year with the Lexington Catholic program, and his 25th year coaching high school soccer in Lexington.  From 1983 -1991 Coach García-Penya served as assistant head coach and JV head coach for the boys’ soccer program at Tates Creek High School where he was a part of the boys’ 1985 and 1988 state championship teams.  Also at Tates Creek High School, he started the girls’ soccer program in  1985 and served as head coach until 2001, being a part of the girls’ 1995 state runner-up and compiling a coaching record of 205-104-15.  He is married to Christine Timko, a world language teacher at LCHS with two children, Jordi and Amaya.  He currently teaches at Lafayette High School.

Assistant Coach Katie Gray

 

Katie Gray is a 2003 graduate from Lexington Catholic High School and starred on the 2002 State Championship Team.  She scored the winning PK in overtime to win.  She played at Miami of Ohio before transferring to the University of Kentucky.  Katie is currently finishing her degree from UK in Spanish this fall.  This is her first year working with the teams.

Strength Coach Cynthia Smith

 

This is Mrs. Smith’s fifth season working as the strength coach.  She also has taught in the Science Department for 11 years and currently is the Science Department Chair.  She graduated from UK with a Biology degree and a Masters in Education and has Rank I  with a masters in Exercise Physiology.  She is married to Mr. Nigel Smith, a history teacher and football coach at Lexington Catholic, and recently had a son, Shawn.

Greg Hilvers – Goalkeeper Coach

 

Greg Hilvers is in his 7th season as the goalkeeper coach.  He graduated from Lafayette High School where he earn All-City, All-State, and All-American honors.  He played two years of college soccer at the University of Charleston.  He earned his B.S. in Social Studies Education at the University of Kentucky, holds a “D” national coaching certificate, and an NSCAA Regional Goalkeeping certificate.  He teaches social studies at LCHS and is the Site Director for KeeperEdge in Lexington.

Barb Winters – Athletic Trainer

 

Barb has been working for LCHS for 15 years as an employee of Lexington Clinic Sports Medicine.  She received her B.S. degree in Athletic Training from Eastern Kentucky University and her M.S. degree from Morehead State in Exercise Science.  In 1998, Barb received NATA Tinactin Tough Cases Award for saving the life of a softball player during the Bluegrass State Games.  She also received an Award of Merit from the Kentucky Athletic Society that same year.
