This
year’s field included: Lexington Christian, 13th region runner-up
Lexington Catholic, 20th District champion Boone County, Sub-section
4 runner-up Elizabethtown, Sub-section 5 runner-up Highlands, Sub-section 4
champion South Oldham, Section 4 champion Woodford County, and last year’s
state champion Sacred Heart.
In
its inaugural year of 2002, the tournament championship was a precursor to the
State Finals, with Sacred Heart beating Lexington Catholic 2 – 1. In 2003, Sacred Heart again was triumphant
with a win over Highlands 2 – 1. Last
year, Sacred Heart extended its streak of three championships by beating
Lexington Catholic 1 – 0.
