St. Spalding:
Mother Catherine Spalding was the co-founder and first (and most influential leader) of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, near Bardstown Kentucky. She was elected to lead the order at the age of nineteen and, during her leadership, founded several educational institutions, Louisville’s first private hospital, and the first social service agency for children in the state. She made it her life’s work to serve the citizens of Kentucky, and that legacy of service continues today. The congregation she helped found continues to reflect her charitable spirit in its educational, medical, spiritual, and social service endeavors throughout the United States, Latin America, and South Asia. Her name is widely known and associated with St. Catherine’s, one of the original Catholic high schools. Catherine Spalding’s character and her drive to help others are the guiding principles for our high school and for this house.
The Crest:
In our original inception the Senior Class of 2010 chose the vibrant color Teal as the accent color and what better background than black for this vibrant color to be represented on. The vibrant teal color is a great reflection of the energy and spirit the Spalding House reveals every day. Fleur de lis: The fleur de lis is a great mark of Louisville, Kentucky where Catherine Spalding is responsible for many charitable acts. The cross, wings, and serpents: Chosen for Catherine's work in the development of hospitals, particularly her role in St. Joseph's hospital.
