Shadow a Student

Shadow a Knight Program
All prospective students are encouraged to shadow or participate in a school visit day. Shadowing is a great way to experience a day in the life of a Lexington Catholic student. We believe you will feel right at home and want to make Lexington Catholic your choice for high school. At 800 students we are just the right size for students to begin to spread their wings with the assurance of support from our community of faculty, staff and LCHS families.

Shadowing allows 7th and 8th grade students to be our guest on campus for a school day. Visit challenging classes, meet great teachers and have fun with other students. A shadow visit can be scheduled Monday through Friday of a regular school day.  A one week advance notice is preferable to ensure the best possible shadow visit.

Scheduling a shadow visit is easy! Simply click here to email our Director of Admissions, Mindy Towles, and request a shadow visit. A confirmation will be sent back to you within 2 business days. You may also call the Office of Admissions at (859)277-7183 ext. 231 to schedule your visit.

Here are some important details about the shadow experience that you should know:

 - 7th and 8th graders are welcome September through mid-December and January through mid- May. We do not schedule shadow visits during semester review or final exams weeks.

 - The shadow day begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends by 2:00.  We like for our shadow guests to experience our beginning of the day activities during homeroom, visit a number of engaging classes, and be our guest for lunch.

 - When Shadow guests arrive they should report to the school office to meet the Director of Admission and their shadow host.

 - Attire should include a golf or collared shirt, dress slacks, shorts or skort. Tennis shoes are acceptable.

 - The Admissions Office will arrange your guide unless you request someone in particular. We will make every effort possible to accommodate any special request. (Please Note: Due to scheduling conflicts and to avoid too much interference with a student's academic efforts, not all requests can be guaranteed).

 - Student guides will be selected according to grade level and similar interests. All 7th and 8th guests will be matched with either a Freshman or Sophomore.

 - You'll have a great lunch on us.

9th- 11th Grade Transfer Student Shadow Visits

High School Transfer students are also encouraged to shadow a student. We will do our best to match you with a student with like interests and academics.  You may also request to be placed with a shadow host.

We asked students to recall their experience "shadowing" before they enrolled at Lexington Catholic. The message below is from Claire Waller, a 2011 graduate of LCHS:

It seems like yesterday that I was a frightened, uncertain student looking for a high school home. I was coming from three years of a home-schooling education, and I was apprehensive about returning to the traditional school setting – and then I was given the opportunity to shadow a Lexington Catholic student. When I arrived on campus my mind was filled with all kinds of questions. How in the world was I going to fit in here? This was a big place filled with a lot of people, and I did not know any of them. I was all anxiety and trepidation about this new step in my life.

Shadowing made all the difference in the world to me! It put to rest my fears about the traditional high school setting: what classes should I take, what should I expect from teachers – and what would they expect of me – and how was I going to find my way around this big place?

The student I shadowed was so kind and gentle to me as I stumbled along behind her, down the hallways, from class to class. She was so patient and tolerant of my seemingly senseless questions. She made me feel so comfortable – made me feel like I was already a classmate. There I was – a frightened, tentative eighth grader – being embraced, and lovingly shepherded by a total stranger. It was wonderful, incredible! And by the end of my shadowing day, I knew that my transition into high school was going to be a smooth one. I was going to be okay! No longer anxious and uncertain – I knew I wanted to be a part of this warm, welcoming and comfortable community of LCHS.

Sure, we at Lexington Catholic have a great product – we are a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, with superb academic and athletic programs, a place where champions are made – but we are also a safe place – a home – a community where students are loved and nurtured, where teaching and learning are paramount, and a place where the love of Christ imbues all that we do.
