Father Norman's Rap Lyrics

“Hopeful”

Dedicated to Dr. King and Kenzel

Intro: 2 bells

Yo’-you know a lot of times we forget that we are “Made to be Whole”

In mind, body or soul…but when something negative happens we find ourselves crippled or paralyzed and wanna scream and cry because we let our dreams die.  But by faith  and love we can still rise!!!   So this goes out to LCHS, in honor of Dr. King—let’s live out His Dream—to be alive—God’s on our side!!!

REFRAIN:

What does it take to be Hopeful?

Living in a world that can be so cold

Tryin’ hard to reach my destiny

My light shines bright into eternity….

--Let our light shine bright into eternity

Lord help me, I wanna be free, from all the pains and chains that try to enslave me!

Yo’-Jimmy was an American Teen

Loved life and sports and his girlfriend Jean

Never thinking that he would do anything wrong

But there would come a day that Jimmy wouldn’t be so strong

That’s when (one day) his friends got into some drugs and mess

Jimmy loved his friends but at first didn’t want any of it

His girlfriend said, “Jimmy, we’re all together it’s fine..and besides if you love me

you’ll prove it this time”

So Jimmy took the weed and lit it up; said cool got a buzz drinking liquor from a cup

And if that, wasn’t enough--his girlfriend said, “Could we get some more of that stuff.”

Jimmy got into a trap and got hooked on that

Believing love was getting high which was never the fact

But, what did he know—he was so young, got strung and let his life go

Not for himself or real love though.

REFRAIN:

What does it take to be Hopeful?

Living in a world that can be so cold

Tryin’ hard to reach my destiny

My light shines bright into eternity….

--Let our light shine bright into eternity

Lord help me, I wanna be free, from all the pains and chains that try to enslave me!

So when Jimmy started failin’ in school, he thought,

“I’m not helping myself and what’ll happen if I get caught?”

When he told his girlfriend they needed to chill she got mad--

Jean got high tried to drive but wrecked her car real bad

So sad—the story’s not like jack and diane

This is the story of 2 lives who suffered spiritual incarceration

Well, the good news is Jimmy got help with his drugs and grades

His girlfriend went to church, knelt down for the first time and prayed

It was like airport lights guiding their souls back home

They became good friends and made peace like shalom.

Perhaps that’s what King meant as his life neared the end

That we would neither be enslaved by the world nor the color of skin

And no matter what social class you’re in

We can all help each other to discover the best within—AMEN.

What does it take to be Hopeful?

Living in a world that can be so cold

Tryin’ hard to reach my destiny

My light shines bright into eternity….

Lord Help Me, I wanna be free, from all the pains and chains that try to enslave me.
