Knights in Shining Armor

The Knights in Shining Armor Award is given to students who have special achievements, (particularly in the community at large) or are accomplishing something that is not recognized by our academic or athletic award programs.  The students are nominated by a faculty or staff member.
March Winner

Student:  Shannon Brown

Nominated by: Megan Iranpour

Reason for recognition:  Shannon was awarded the United States French National Honor Society travel grant award.

This award requires essays in French, a vigorous application, and provides grant money to accepted students to use on future trips to Europe/francophone countries.  Students are chosen based on the quality of their essay, the recommendations, and their academic background.  Shannon was chosen for the award with 9 other candidates in the continental US.  She will receive a certificate and $750 to use during her trip this summer with LCHS to France.

February Winners

Student Names:  Annabel Moorman and Ellen Sanders

Nominated by:  Megan Iranpour

Reason for Recognition:  Both of these young ladies were accepted to participate in the Deauville Sister Cities Exchange. Students must submit an application, an essay in French, and a teacher recommendation.  Then they must come and interview with a panel of local French teachers and professors, as well as the Sister City commission, and be selected to participate in the exchange.  Both of these young ladies received extreme praise from the committee and have been chosen to stay in Deauville, France, for four weeks and then return with a French exchange student who is to stay four weeks as well.  This is a huge honor and there are always very few French students available for the exchange, making acceptance into the program very honorable and indicative of great achievement.  Among more than 10 other Fayette County students who applied, Lexington Catholic had two students to receive this Award/Appointment.

Student Names: Lauren Burton and John Sam Steele

Nominated by: Lee McGrath and Fr. Norman Fischer

Reason for Recognition:  These two sophomore students stepped up to host a benefit concert for the Barcley Pace Education Fund and African Missions.  We grossed up to $3000 for this event bringing Lex Catholic with Scott County high school representation and local community.  Parents were also supportive.  They did publicity, gathered the bands, Lauren performed—we truly enjoyed this very successful evening!

Student Name: Kelsey Sprang and Peytra Osetinsky

Nominated by: Susan Greene

Reason for Recognition:  These two students came up with the idea of the Culinary Club sponsorship of a needy family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. They coordinated all the food for both holidays, got the 3 kids’ wish lists and sizes, and bought and delivered all food and gifts. We had some donated money but most of it came from the Club’s account. Members made food and brought it to school but these 2 gals did all the legwork, phone calls, and deliveries.

Student Name: Otto Hoffmann

Nominated by: Karen McDavid

Reason for Recognition: Otto is the state all-around gymnastics champion in his age division.  He began gymnastics four years ago, and won the state title last year.  He practices twenty hours per week.
