Psalm 27
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
FINDING THE RHYTHM of LIFE at LC
As we walk though our daily lives at Catholic it seems that we go through he same routines every day. Every day we walk to Religion, then World History, American Literature, finish the morning off with Algebra 2 and them it’s on to lunch. We sit at the same tables, with the same people, and eat whatever the school dishes out. Three more classes and we’re out of here for the day. But it doesn’t stop there. We have an activity at least every other day, and numerous assignments, essays, and test to study for, it’s our daily routine, our own daily rhythm or beat and it never seems to be broken up. If something small changes then we are able to adapt quite easily and make the necessary adjustments. But how do we handle the big things? Not being late, forgetting your homework, or seven missing the occasional day of school. I’m talking about a serious change like the ones that affect you for weeks, months or even longer. How do you make it back form those and start moving to your beat again? I had one of those experiences during my freshman year. I lost a special person who is very important to me and my family. My grandfather passed away two months into the school year. I was already into my routine, getting my own rhythm, and he was gone. I hit a wall.
This was a man that I talked to all the time. A man that all of my family said I was destined to be like. He was the guy who always lived life to the fullest. Even into his 70s he went to UK basketball games, went to movies, and even boogey boarded when we went to the beach. He was also a very religious man, and when his wife died, he prayed. Attending daily mass, and praying at all times during his day, he pushed through the difficulty times. And he turned out being the same fun-loving grandfather that he always was. The day that we laid him to rest, I prayed like never before. I found comfort in my prayer and found that going to Church was a way to help me with my problems. I found that like my grandfather, I was quickly able to being my old self again. I found God as my restoring power and through Him I was able to return to the rhythm of high school life.
