LCPO 1st General Session

Greetings!

Our first General Session was held Monday 9/22 @ 7pm in LCHS’s auditorium. We had a fantastic speaker who addressed the fundamental core of teaching and the importance of being able to engage with students and make a connection with how they learn. As a Blue Ribbon school we continue to strive to make our children’s educational experience the best it can be and to prepare them for the next stage in their life. With that in mind we invited Keen Babbage to share his thoughts and views on “Extreme Teaching”.

I encourage all parents to set aside an hour of their time for each LCPO meeting to participate in a great learning experience and one that all of us will benefit from.

Let’s not forget, at the end of each General Session, we will hold a drawing for the “cash equivalent” of one student’s tuition. Remember; you need to be a member of the LCPO (all it takes is a $40 donation per family).

See you at the next meeting,
Brian Dewhurst, LCPO President

"I use the extreme teaching approach, which builds upon the wholesome knowledge, interests and talents of students to make connections between what students know and what they need to learn," says Babbage. "The brain is designed to make connections. Plus, by making learning at school connect with the wholesome knowledge, interests and talents of students, there is no issue about 'when will we ever need to know this?' or 'why do we need to learn this?' The purpose of teaching is to cause learning and that is the standard by which I measure my work."
