Overview:

What follows is a schedule of one hour sessions devoted to exploring the Doctrines, Moral Teachings and Practices (Disciplines) of the Roman Catholic Church.  Faculty and staff of Lexington Catholic and parents of students and alumnae of Lexington Catholic are welcome.

These sessions are one hour in length and offered from 3:30 to 4:30PM according to the schedule that follows.

These sessions will be largely dialogical (discussion) rather than didactic (lecture).  A tentative session outline follows.

No preparation on the part of the participants is required.  To facilitate the discussion, copies of a discussion tool called Exploring the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Participant’s Guide[1] will be provided to participants.  This booklet, forty four pages in length, divides The Catechism of the Catholic Church into ten sections and invites exploration of the corresponding sections of The Catechism by offering a number of pertinent discussion questions.  Also, a number of copies of The Catechism of the Catholic Church will be kept on hand on a loan basis for individual reading if individuals desire to go somewhat deeper into topics discussed.

This course will be repetitive as well as ongoing.  Coverage of individual aspects of Roman Catholic Doctrine, Moral Teaching and Practice will be repeated.  In this way, participants may choose to skip a certain session knowing that it will become available again at a later date.   Though topics will be repeated, the material will be fresh because each section of the Participant’s Guide provides sufficient material to direct discussion to new aspects within each topic.  The Participant’s Guide also allows tailoring the discussions to the current interests of the participants.

Session Outline:

- Opening Prayer, 2 minutes

- Revisiting the Previous Session; Participant and Facilitator Comments, 8 minutes

- Discussion of the Current Section of The Catechism, 30 minutes

- Presentation on Specific Items in the Current Section, 10 minutes

- Closing Comments by Participants, 10 minutes
