2009 – 10 Lady Knights Coaching Staff 

Girls Varsity Head Coach TERRY QUIGLEY 

Terry Quigley has been a teacher and coach for over thirty years in Lexington and St. Louis. For eighteen years he has been the head coach of the Lexington Catholic Lady Knights, the 2002 State Champions. During his tenure, the Lady Knights have made 7 appearances in the state final four, winning in 2002 and losing in a shootout in 2005. Coach Quigley has accumulated 10 district championships and advanced to the region final 16 consecutive years, winning the region title 9 times and winning 7 sectional championships. He has also coached a total of 64 All-State players.

Coach Quigley coached the Lexington Catholic boys soccer team from 1984 to 1998, as an assistant and head coach. In his two-plus seasons as the boys head coach, the Knights made two appearances in the region final, winning one region title and advancing to the state tournament.

Mr. Quigley is co-founder of the Kentucky High School Girls Soccer Coaches Association (“KHSGSCA”) and served as president of the organization from inception in 1992 through 2007 in which he instituted the Kentucky Girls All-Star game. He has been recognized by the KHSGSCA as the Kentucky Coach of the Year numerous times and he was selected as the South Region Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association in 2003. In 2004, he was selected as Kentucky Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Soccer Coaches. In 2008, he was nominated as National Coach of the Year by the National High School Coaches Association. He is the only coach in the state ever to be nominated.

At Lexington Catholic, Mr. Quigley teaches in the Math Department. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in history and has earned his Masters equivalent in mathematics attending both the University of Missouri and the University of Kentucky. Prior to coming to Lexington Catholic, he taught at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary. Coach Quigley is married to Kathleen and he has a son, Sean and daughter Caroline.

Girls JV Head Coach JAVIER GARCIA-PENYA

A native of Torrellas, (Zaragoza) Spain and a world language teacher since 1983, Coach Garcia-Penya is beginning his eighth year with the Lexington Catholic program and his 27th year coaching high school soccer in Lexington. From 1983-1991 Coach Garcia-Penya (“G-P”) served as assistant head coach and JV head coach for the boys soccer program at Tates Creek High School where he was part of the boys 1985 and 1988 state championships teams. Also at Tates Creek High School, he initiated the girls soccer program in 1985 and served as head coach until 2001. Coach G-P compiled a record of 205-104-15 and his 1995 team reached the State Finals.

At. LCHS, Coach G-P is honored to work with the girls JV squad and continues to be blessed with dozens of skilled and admirable young ladies like the 2007 undefeated team. He is married to Christine Timko, a world language teacher at LCHS and they have two children, Jordi and Amaya. G-P currently teaches at Lafayette High School.

Girls Assistant Varsity Coach JONATHAN KINCHELOE

Coach Kincheloe is an alumnus of Lexington Catholic where he was a four-year varsity player, two-year Captain, and senior MVP. He also was named to the Kentucky All State Team twice, also receiving All Region and All District recognition. He attended Transylvania University where he again was a four-year starter and was awarded Freshman Player of the Year and four-time MVP. Additionally, Jonathan made All Conference all four years and also achieved All Region and All American honors.

Coach Kincheloe has recently retired from professional soccer where he has spent the last 2 years playing professional indoor.  He was a two year captain and named to the all league team as a defender in his two year career for the Louisville Lightning. 

Coach Kincheloe holds a USSF National “D” license and he coaches the Lexington Football Club ’95 boys team who were the 2009 state finalists. He has coached with the Lexington Football Club since 2002, coaching both boys and girls of various age groups. He has also coached in the Kentucky Olympic Development program. In 2007, Jonathan served as the Transylvania mens assistant coach.

Coach Kincheloe has played for the USASA “Kentucky Wanderers” since 2005. The Wanderers were the Kentucky Mens State Amateur Champion in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2006 and 2007 they were the Mens Region II finalist and semi-finalist, respectively.

Mr. Kincheloe teaches Business Marketing and Personal Finance at Lexington Catholic and he is owner of K Low Remodeling.

Boys and Girls Athletic Trainer BARBARA WINTERS

Barbara is entering her seventeenth year as the Athletic Trainer for Lexington Catholic athletics. She is responsible for all varsity sports at Lexington Catholic with the exception of football. An employee of Lexington Clinic Sports Medicine, she received a B.S. degree in Athletic Training from Eastern Kentucky University and a Masters Degree in Exercise Science from UK and Morehead State. She has been a part of 14 State Championships in various sports during her tenure with Lexington Catholic.

In 1998, Barbara was awarded the NATA (National Athletic Trainer Association) Tinactin Tough Cases Award for her role in saving the life of a softball player during the Bluegrass State Games. She also received an Award of Merit from the Kentucky Athletic Society for this action.

Boys and Girls Head Dog J.J.

J.J. Winters enters her sixth season as Head Dog and Mascot for Lexington Catholic sports where she faithfully monitors all trash cans and equipment bags. A gift from the boys soccer team parents, J.J. has three State Championship T-Shirts.
