Taylor Brooks

A 2005 graduate of Lexington Catholic, Brooks is entering his second year at the helm of the Knights baseball program. During his first year, Brooks was named the 2011 11th Region Coach of the Year. Under Brooks, the Knights finished their 2011 campaign with a record of 30-7 and were the 11th Region champions. For the first time in school history, two Knights were selected in the 2011 MLB first-year player draft, along with several more continuing their career in the college ranks. The Knights were ranked as high as 41st nationally.

Brooks was a five-year member of the Knights baseball program and continued his playing career at Gardner-Webb University (Boiling Springs, NC) where he studied Sports Management and went on to receive his MBA.

Prior to being named as the Knights' head coach, Brooks was a varsity assistant at Lexington Catholic. This past summer, Brooks also served as an assistant for the Lexington Hustlers, a member of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.

Craig Snipp

Varsity Pitching Coach

Snipp, in his second year in charge of the Knights’ pitching staff, played baseball for state powerhouse Pleasure Ridge Park and the University of Kentucky. During his time at UK, the Wildcats won the 2006 SEC regular season Conference Championship. He also won a “Catspy” in 2007 for the “Best Male Performance of the Year” for the complete game he threw against Georgia to clinch the regular season title. After he graduated, Snipp went on to play professionally for the Sussex Skyhawks (Can-Am league) and the Washington Wild Things (Frontier League).

During his first year with the Knights, the pitching staff experienced marked improvements. Under Snipp’s watch, the Knights’ pitching staff was dominant, sporting a 2.32 team ERA. One of Snipp’s players was also drafted in the MLB first year player draft (Taylor Martin, University of Kentucky) in the 41st round by the Colorado Rockies.

Snipp is the current Operations Manager and coach with the Kentucky Baseball Club

Willie Mays

Varsity Assistant

Mays is in his first year with the Knights, but he is a familiar name around Lexington baseball circles. Mays graduated from Bryan Station High School where he was a six year starter for the Defenders. During his time at Station, he was named first-team All-City three times and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies after his senior season (2004).

Willie opted to attend the University of Kentucky, where he played one season before transferring to Sinclair Community College. While at Sinclair, Mays led the team to a number one ranking in the conference while hitting over .365. After one year at Sinclair, Mays was drafted again, this time by the Florida Marlins (2006). Mays then went on to finish his career at Mississippi Valley State (SWAC Conference).

Mays is currently employed at Lansdowne Elementary, where he helped start the “Young Men of Lansdowne” club, which mentors male students at the school.

Tony Talbott

Talbott has been a fixture at Lexington Catholic, especially for the Knights’ Baseball and Women’s Basketball Teams. Talbott played a key role in all three state championship baseball teams during his tenure with the baseball team.

Tony has also helped lead the Lady Knights to four state championships and two state runner-up finishes.

Talbott was a standout athlete at Harrison County High School before he attended Eastern Kentucky University, where he continued his baseball career. Tony’s son, Michael, is a freshman at Lexington Catholic and is a member of the basketball and baseball team.

Robin Brooks

Affectionately known as "Pops," Brooks is entering his second year on staff with the Knights. Brooks, who has been active around Lexington baseball for almost 15 years, brings a wealth of baseball knowledge and experience to Lexington Catholic.

A standout at Lafayette High School, Brooks went on to play at Martin Methodist Junior College (Pulaski, TN) for two years before finishing his playing career at Middle Tennessee State University (Murfreesboro, TN). Brooks has been involved with youth and summer baseball for many years in the Lexington area.

He is the father of Head Coach Taylor Brooks.

Brian Karlet

 Karlet is beginning his first year with the Knights in 2012, bringing a wealth of knowledge from the college ranks. Karlet comes to the Knights from Georgetown College, where Karlet spent the last two years as the Head Coach of the Tigers' Baseball Program.

Karlet graduated with a degree in Communications from Georgetown College, where he was named all-conference following his senior year. Following graduation, Karlet served as an Assistant Coach at Marshall University (Conference USA) for two years. While at Marshall, he earned his Masters in Athletic Administration. Following his stint at Marshall, Karlet returned to his alma mater as the head assistant coach for the Tigers. After serving two years as the head assistant, he was promoted to head coach in 2009.

Under Karlet's guidance, the Tigers never finished lower than 3rd place in the Mid South Conference. Karlet sported a 58-56 record at the helm of the Tigers' Baseball Program and a 35-21 record in conference play.

Dewayne Oxford

Oxford, who is in his fourth season with the Knights, graduated from Oak Harbor High School (Oak Harbor, WA) in 2002. Upon graduation, Oxford attended Edmonds Community College, playing three seasons (2003-2005). While at Edmonds, he helped lead Tritons to a Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Championship in 2003. Oxford then transferred to the University of Kentucky in 2006, where he helped Kentucky to their first SEC baseball regular season championship in 2006.

Upon Oxford’s arrival, the Knights’ JV team has seen major improvements in the pitching staff. Oxford is responsible for overseeing the JV pitching staff and preparing them to compete at the Varsity level.

Jared Jervis

Jervis, a 2000 graduate of Lexington Catholic and a member of the 1999 state championship team, will be entering his second year working with the Knights' JV program. Jervis is responsible for working with the Knight's infielders and hitters at the JV level. 

Jervis also coached the 2011 South Lexington 12 year old all-star team, which made it to the World Series, located in Visalia, CA. Jervis helped guide the team to an impressive runner-up finish.

After graduating from Lexington Catholic, Jared went on to continue his playing career at Volunteer State Community College (Gallatin, TN).
