Tom opened up the meeting with a prayer.
He welcomed everyone and gave a general description of what the Alumni Council is all about and reviewed recent events and upcoming events and what each event required from the Alumni Council.
Recent events:
-
Louisville/Trinity/BW3’s get together – good turnout, more than last year
-
Alumni Business lunch – more people in attendance; Debbie Schnurr suggested renaming it an Alumni Lunch and not an Alumni Business Lunch because some people might not come because they don’t have a business. The Council thought it was a good idea and will make that change for the next lunch.
Future events:
-
Hoagie Day – Saturday, September 29th, 2007 – Pam is getting ready to kick off hoagies with her Hoagie Moms and the Faculty/Staff this week, to get the volunteer sign-ups and the students sales going. Pam also reported that the cost of the ingredients has increased this year.
-
Homecoming – Friday, October 5th, 2007 – Once again, the Alumni Council will be serving hot dogs, chips and beverages behind the President’s House before the football game. Pam reported that through the alumni business lunch, one of our alumni offered to set up their combo jazz band on the back porch that night and play for a couple of hours at a good price. The Council thought it was a good idea and Pam will finalize the arrangements. Class of ’52, ’87 & ’92 will be having their reunions that night.
-
Hall of Fame Game – rescheduled to January 18th, 2008, which is the Winter Homecoming. The Council has selected two inductees and they will be recognized in between the girls and boys basketball games that day.
-
Phone a thon – Alumni nights are November 14th & 15th. Sandy Devers is still chairing this event and explained to those at the meeting what was involved with getting this event done. She will need 8 – 10 alumni per night to make phone calls. Pizza and beverages provided both nights.
-
Career Day – January 10, 2008. Once again, co-chaired by Susie Morton, Kathleen Quigley and Kerry Nemachek. Only change for this event is to drop the number of sessions from four to three. Pam is meeting with Sally this week to discuss logistics.
-
Mid Knight Stakes – February 2nd, 2008 – Although the Alumni Council is not directly involved in the chairing of this event, Alumni are always needed as volunteers and Debbie Schnurr will once again be in charge of that coordination.
-
Alumni Day at Keeneland – Friday, April 25, 2008 – The Alumni Council plays host to this event by providing hot dogs, chips, dessert and liquid refreshments to all Alumni on their way into the racetrack. It’s a great way kickoff your reunion weekend. Let us provide the food and drink, you show up and enjoy the day.
-
Spring Fling – Saturday, April 26, 2008 – LCH’s annual event to say “thank you” to its community of supporters. This year’s event will feature a band, “Swing Street”, while the Class of ’77 provides an open bar to all in attendance. There’s always plenty to munch on and lots of old friends to catch up with. All of this fun for only $10.00 per person. You couldn’t run through McDonald’s drive through for that amount and have as much fun. This event is a perfect way to cap off your class reunion weekend. Again, the food, drink and entertainment are provided – all you have to do is buy a ticket and enjoy yourself.
-
Principals’ Cup – Monday, May 12th, 2008 at Spring Valley Country Club – The Alumni Council hosts this event. Pam encouraged all the members to work on increasing sponsorships and participation. All proceeds to go Tuition Assistance, a great cause and a wonderful way to spend a spring day in Kentucky.
Todd Myers brought up an idea for the Council to think about. He suggested we begin having an Alumni Happy Hour as a way to maybe encourage the younger Alumni to reconnect much like we’ve been able to do with the Alumni lunches. This might be a better venue for those Alumni who are not committed to raising families, etc. The Council thought it was a great idea and suggested we alternate maybe one month having the Alumni lunch and then the next month the Happy Hour. Todd is going to check with Azur to see if we can put something together for Thursday, November 1, from 5 – 7 PM.
The last order of business was to make a motion for Todd to be installed as the new chair, replacing Tom O’Brien. Sandy Devers made a motion and the motion was carried. She also made a motion that Susie Morton continue on as secretary/treasurer. That motion, as well, was carried. The Council decided to hold off installing another Vice Chair until the next meeting.
Beth Muncy, Frank Gettler and Mark Hinkel all agreed to come on board with the Council. Debbie Schnurr had to leave the meeting prior to the Council asking those in attendance if they were able to join us. Susie will follow up with Debbie…..
With nothing further to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007
