How to Use the Literature Resource Center Database to Find Articles

Requirements:
Lexington Public Library Card 
(You must know your card number and pin number, which is usually the last four digits of the telephone number on your records.

How to access Literature Resource Center:

Go to www.lexpublib.org or Go to the LCHS Homepage>Library>Research Links>Lexington Public Library.
               
Under Navigation (green box, left column), click on Research and Information, hold and choose Online Databases.

Scroll down to Books and Literature (center of page) to find and click on Literature Resource Center.

Click on Enter Collection.  (You will be asked for your card number and pin number.)

How to search and narrow your search:

Basic Search:
Name of Work—enter title of novel, short story, poem, play, etc.
Person—enter name of author, poet, dramatist, etc.
Keyword—enter term (searches author, title, first 50 words of text, assigned index terms)
All Text—enter term (searches keyword areas plus entire text)

Limit Results to Peer-Reviewed Publications—may get better articles; teacher may require this

Limit Results by Date—you get fewer articles; teacher may require this step

Limit Results by Content Type—recommend you choose “All” because your results will contain all content type categorized under tabs.  You can then choose one or more specific content

 Ask your teacher before you choose all electronic resources.  That choice will take you to other databases that may or may not offer what your teacher wants you to use for research.

Advanced Search—lets you combine searches.  For example, you could search “Author—Hawthorne” and “Title—Scarlet Letter” and “Keyword—Redemption” or “All Text—Redemption.”  This search would give you articles about Hawthorne that mention both The Scarlet Letter and the word redemption.C
